TRB will conduct a web briefing or "webinar" on Thursday, May 6, 2010, from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. EDT that will explore a project from TRB's second Strategic Highway Research Program that developed strategies to improve the project-agreement process between railroads and highway agencies when coordinating on projects that cross or abut railways. 3rd Conference on Innovations in Travel Modeling
TRB is sponsoring a conference on Innovations in Travel Demand Forecasting: 2010 on May 10-12, 2010, in Tempe, Arizona. Multimodal Freight Transportation Within the Great Lakes-Saint Lawrence Basin
TRB's National Cooperative Freight Research Program (NCFRP) has issued a request for proposals to describe the current multimodal freight transportation system and its performance in the Great Lakes-Saint Lawrence basin, including the economic impact of the freight transportation system on regional, United States, and Canadian economies, and to identify opportunities and constraints in the basin for meeting projected freight flows. TRB's Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) Report 27: Enhancing Airport Land Use Compatibility, Volume 2: Land Use Survey and Case Study Summaries is part of a three-volume report that explores issues related to land use around airports. Volume 2 includes 15 case studies that targeted a wide range of airports and land use issues. The case study sites include large commercial service, military, and general aviation airports and are geographically diverse. Volume 2 also provides states and local governments with examples and a common basis for establishing zoning that protects the public interest and investment in airports.

Upward Trend in Vehicle-Miles Resumed During 2009

According to the report, after a two-year interruption to a long-term upward trend, the number of vehicle-miles traveled (VMT) on the nation's highways appears to have resumed a pattern of upward growth in 2009. Alternative Intersections/Interchanges: Informational Report
The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has released a report that explores four intersection and two interchange designs that have potential advantages over conventional at-grade intersections and grade-separated diamond interchanges. Issues explored in the report related to each alternative treatment include geometric design, operation and safety, access management, costs, construction sequencing, environmental benefits, and applicability.
